PRANA JUNIOR JIU-JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a famous martial art, combat sport, and self-defence practice emphasising grappling fighting. The Gracie family invented it in Brazil in the early twentieth century.

It is well-known for its efficacy in self-defence, which allows a smaller, weaker person to successfully defend themselves against a larger, stronger attacker and an important foundation for mixed martial arts (MMA).

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a good workout that doesn’t allow striking so your child will not be getting punched or kicked but will learn how to defend against these strikes. It teaches numerous life-changing lessons, including discipline, consistency, humility, respect, integrity, focus plus physical benefits such as strength, coordination, body awareness, fitness and agility.

Gradings

All gradings are included in membership and there will be multiple grading events throughout the year that your child will be invited to attend as part of their membership. BJJ is known to be the most difficult art to achieve the grade of black belt and whilst we believe that a new grade needs to be earned, we do not hold children back and measure development in many ways, not just physical ability. We mainly look for the child’s ability to show respect and kindness towards their peers, growth mindset, ability to focus for longer, paying attention (we also appreciate some neuro-diverse children may struggle with this and take that into consideration), consistency, staying relaxed under pressure and willingness to learn. These are all key attributes to be a martial artist and will help your child develop mentally, emotionally, socially and physically.
